STREAM PROJECTS
This year, students will work on month long projects that reflect the current theme in all six areas of STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics)
Instead of last year's STEAM and weekly STEAM Reports, we now will have month long STREAM projects.
Students will see examples in school, and work on projects all month at home with their families, then will collect them together to turn in on a given DUE DATE towards the end of the month.
K and grade 1 students may have parent help with the writing elements for the projects (grades 2-6 should write their own)
September’s Dolphin Tale inspired STREAM project
ALL PROJECTS DUE BY: MONDAY, SEPT. 29th
(MUST FOLLOW ALL SIX STEPS/AREAS)
1. Science
Research Aquariums, Modern tanks/animal care procedures in current sea life exhibits
There are many places to research such as the CMA we are going to, SeaWorld, Florida Aquarium, MOTE, etc. check on youtube or our website msaslearninglabs.com then click STREAM projects link to see some examples
2. Engineer
Make a model of a modern aquarium/tank
You can make any model, but make sure it can hold/keep water (perhaps use plastic tubs and tubes, etc.) **
3. Arts
Create your habitat
Using any art materials you have (paint, paper, clay, diorama supplies) make a distinct animal habitat in or around your tank. (Could be a penguin enclosure, a beachfront scene, dolphin tank, etc)
4. Math
Measure the volume of your tank model
Find out how much water your tank can hold (use: http://www.firsttankguide.net/calculator.php if you need help)
5. Tech & 6. Reading
Write a description of your exhibit and type it to attach to your display
Using your science research and artistic habitat create a description about your exhibit similar to the informational signs posted at modern sea life tanks/aquariums. Include facts about the animal, its habitat, and why you have chosen this creature to display (such as Winter and Hope’s unique stories posted at their CMA tanks)
TURN COMPLETED PROJECT INTO MR.J BY MONDAY SEPT. 29th
**YOU DO NOT NEED TO BRING IN YOUR TANK FILLED WITH WATER, WE CAN ADD THE WATER ONCE ON DISPLAY, BUT MAKE SURE YOUR TANK WILL HOLD WATER WITHOUT LEAKING
