This week, we continued our theme of GAMES including
“Ender’s Game” and “The Hunger Games.”
We practiced our songs “Warrior (From ‘Ender’s Game’)” by DJ SoundHunter
and “TEAM” by Lorde, and all students continued making their STEAM Game Notebooks
as well (Some students have yet to bring in a Composition notebook, and it is definitely
putting them behind other students who had their books turned in on time.)
To help fill out your next STEAM
Report (Week Twelve Due Tuesday, Nov.19) here is a recap of all we have
done this week:
Monday- No school- Veteran’s Day.
Tuesday- We were in the Science Lab
working on two “Training Games.” The
first game was a computer (Technology) game where you had to answer survival skill
questions to get a percentage score (Math) from 0-100%. The second game was a distance (Math) game
involving Archery. Students aimed a foam
arrow and measured how far it flew.
Wednesday- We continued to practice
our songs (Listed above). We continued the
engineering of our STEAM notebooks by adding more GAMES pages in the
notebook. Page 2 features interactive 3d
popups for our current songs’ lyrics. Page
3-10 are different maps and game boards, and page 11 is an envelope to store
all of our game pieces.
Thursday- We held more training
games for district points. In addition
to the two games mentioned above, we added a timed game where teams had to launch
spheres into a basket on top of a player’s heard (Scinece/Physics).
Friday- We will continue to practice
our songs for next Friday’s showcase. We
will continue the engineering of our STEAM notebooks by adding more GAMES pages
in the notebook (see description above).
Students will have until Monday to finish cutting, gluing, and engineering
their books from pages 1 to 11.
All of Mr. J’s first trimester art & music grades are
finished and you may view them on gogeckos.com.
Mr. J’s 100% club party will be in December, and each student that
earned it will get a special invitation to it after Thanksgiving break.
Students are very excited about our current theme. Remember both “The Hunger Games” and “Ender’s
Game” are great books that can be rented at the library or purchased at
BooksAMillion or even Walmart. Imagine
your child reading a book that excites/interests them. One fifth grade student rushed out to get the
book & Mr. J is so proud to see her reading each day! I love to see such motivation =)
